How to get creative in your journal

Step-by-step guide

November 2, 2022

Let's get crafty with these two step-by-step journal guides. You need minimal art supplies and both spreads were created in a standard notebook. So whip out that old journal that's been gathering dust and let's get creative. Tag us in your version of these spreads!

Take your writing journal to the next level!

Equipment:

  • Notebook
  • Glue
  • Watercolour paints
  • Brush
  • Calligraphy pen and ink This can 100% be subbed out for a biro.)

Time 20-30 minutes.

Step 1-Glue a few pages together so the paper is thicker, because we are adding watercolour we need the page to be a little thicker. If you have thicker paper you can use that instead.

Step 2- Lay some watercolour down in both corners of the page. Try not to add too much water but make sure to blend it out. We used blue and purple to give a frosty winter vibe.

Step 3- Get writing! We used a calligraphy pen to channel the 'main character energy' but a brio pen is totally an option.

Finished! You've just taken a boring white page and made it an art journal delight!

Collage experimentation

Step 3- Pick a 'main character' this doesn't have to be human it can be whatever you want. Make sure it is big enough to take up a relative amount of space on the page. Then pop this down in the center of the page.
