1. So, tell us a little about you.

My name’s Georgie, I’m a workshop host at MYO, an actor and a poet.

2. What's your story? Tell us a little about your background

I moved to London in 2011 to study Drama, and after graduating I decided I wanted to pursue acting as a career. At the time, in my mind that meant being the leading lady in a west end musical. Seven years later, I’ve realised that is not necessarily what I want to do, but I do still love performing. So, these days, I am one quarter of sketch comedy troupe Just These, Please and I’m also working on my solo spoken word show which I created in association with the Roundhouse.

3. What artist or artwork inspired you the most growing up?

The front cover of every Jacqueline Wilson book! I used to try and copy them.

4. What artist most inspires you now? I love illustrators like Nina Cosford and Louise Lockhart (The Printed Peanut). They draw with simple, clean lines but beautiful detail and gorgeous colour palettes.

5. What do you create mostly for work and what do you create mostly for fun?

I feel very privileged because I love what I do, so it never ever feels like work. Is that a cheat answer?

6. What piece of work are you most proud of? Why?

I was asked to make cards and write a poem based on a quote from Arundhati Roy for my friend’s wedding which was really special.

7. Do your think people are just born creative or is it something everyone has but many don't explore?

I absolutely think everybody is creative. When we're little, creativity is constantly encouraged and then, as we grow up, we get a bit scared of it, worrying we might get it wrong or produce something aesthetically offensive. I’ve seen children draw some awful pictures, but that doesn’t stop them - instead they’re sticking it pride of place on the fridge. So, for me, creativity isn’t about doing things perfectly and getting it right. It’s about making a mess and using parts of your brain you don’t use every day. It’s good for your mind and we should focus on the process and what that does for you just as much as the final product.

8. What's your favourite colour? Why?

I love a deep mustard yellow. There’s some gorgeous chunky knitwear in that colour.

9. What's your favourite album to listen to whilst you create and why?

I’d probably choose a podcast over an album. Anything about serial killers or the supernatural. Unless I’m in the studio on my own, in which case something by Whitney Houston.

10. If you were stuck on a desert island and had to bring 3 items with you to create with, what would you bring?

A giant pad of thick card, watercolour paints and a machete. The machete isn’t to create with, just for survival.

11. If you could give advice to yourself growing up, with the benefit of hindsight, what would it be?

If it makes you happy, do it! It doesn’t matter if it’s ‘cool’ or if anyone else is doing it. You do you. It took me a while to learn that.

12. What/who made you decide to become a professional creative rather than doing it as a hobby?

Honestly, there was never really another option. I’m very fortunate to have wonderfully supportive parents who encouraged me and my brother to do what makes us happy. It’s definitely not always easy and there are long periods of uncertainty but the second you book a job or a commission or get the chance to do what you love, it makes all the hard work worthwhile.

13. What makes you most happy?

Easily Christmas at my mum and dad’s house. Board games in front of the fire, baking and making decorations and gingerbread house construction and long walks on cold boxing day morning all served with roast potatoes and lashings of gravy.

14. What's next for you? What would you like to be doing in 12 months?

Very excited to just keep creating. I hope to keep learning new skills and start making new things, I’d like to challenge myself to learn a new skill each month, maybe that’ll be my new year’s resolution
