Halloween is on our doorsteps (Yayy) and with it the overwhelming questions of what to wear, how to decorate the house and what Halloweeny meals to prepare.
But fear not! Here is a guide with five creative things you can do that will answer all these questions and help you have an extra spooky, M.Y.O Halloween!
So let’s get started!
Spooky Halloween Hot Chocolate
All you need is a white hot chocolate mix, food colouring, whipped cream, mini marshmallows and a pen with edible ink.
You start by preparing the hot chocolate and adding the food colouring to it (We recommend using red, green and black for an extra spooky look). The next things you need are the marshmallows, the pen with edible ink and a little bit of creative flair!
Use the pen to draw eyeballs and ghosts on the marshmallows to give them an extra scary look. After you are done with this step, top off your colourful drinks with whipped cream and add your ghostly, little sweets.
Then voila! Enjoy your extra spooky drink!
Pumpkin Pottery
We go through the process every year:
We buy the pumpkin, gut it and use the remains for soup or pie (Recipes coming in the last step!). Then we carve a scary, or funny face into it and watch or little masterpiece mould and denigrate over the next few weeks until we finally have to throw it away.
Pumpkin carving is fun and always a good experience but the moment comes in which we have to toss away the old pumpkin away, it feels like such a waste of creative effort…
But not this year! This year we are doing pumpkin and Halloween pots! They are not only reusable but also just as much fun to make.
All you have to do is create a few pots and add scary faces to them or mould a couple of pots into pumpkin shapes so that they can replace the real ones you would usually buy.
Book a class, try it and tell us what you think! This might become your new favourite Halloween thing.
Easy Halloween costumes
One of the things that makes Halloween so overwhelming is the pressure around what to wear.
However, we found this amazing video by Kaiti Yoo, who will give you some fantastic ideas for last-minute costumes! Kaiti’s costume ideas are inspired by Squid Game, The Bachelor, bubble tea and Kermit The Frog.
In case you don’t find anything in it though, we would also recommend the easy-to-make classics! For instance, you could find an old, white blanket or bedsheet, cut a couple of holes into it and go as a ghost.
Artificial blood can also go a long way if you cover yourself in it, buy some scar stickers and a fake knife from your local Poundland. This would make for a perfect costume as a homicidal maniac or stab victim.
Another classic is to go for a black suit and tie, or an oversized white shirt with black trousers and a black bob wig, to go either as an agent from Men In Black or pop culture hero Mia from Pulp Fiction costume.
Every costume is great as long as you think it is and feel comfortable in it!
Halloween Prints To Dress The Part
Not everyone loves wearing a costume for Halloween though. However, most of us still love to dress the part and since most shops don’t have Halloween T-shirts and sweaters like they do Christmas ones, you can just make your own at Make Your Own!
Come to the studio for a lino printing workshop and create your own, original Halloween design that you want on a T-Shirt or a tote bag.
At the end of the workshop, you will have a unique Halloween T-shirt that definitely will definitely beat every normal retail costume on the block!
Make Your Own Pumpkin Pie or Pumpkin Soup
Now that we have covered drinks, outfits, and decorations, it is time for food!
And what food could be more Halloweeny than Pumpkin Pie and Pumpkin soup?!?!
Just for you guys, I have scavenged the internet in the last few hours to find the best pumpkin pie and the best pumpkin soup recipes to make your Halloween meal phenomenal!
For an old-fashioned pumpkin pie, you can enjoy this recipe by BBC Food that will involve 10 hours of prep time and 1 hour of cooking time. According to the reviews, however, it is definitely worth the wait and effort. Here is also the recipe for a much faster, vegan alteration of the pie that will only take a bit more than an hour to make and taste just as phenomenal.
If you also want something more savoury for your dinner table, you should definitely cook this roasted pumpkin soup, which also has a lovely vegan version!
We recommend that you enjoy each of these things with a good Halloween movie and some lovely snacks!
If you try any of these things or have a question, please comment, tag us in your stories or send us a DM!
We love to hear what you think of our recommendations!
Have a lovely spooky season!
